  • Description

Uncle’s magic thrownet was magic indeed.

It could catch every fish that there was in the sea…

But a young visitor soon finds that all is not what it seems with uncle’s old net. Set in the warmth of the Hawaiian islands, generosity, conservation, intergenerational learning, and discovery are all shared in this new classic fishing tale.

Includes a glossary of fish in the back.

About the Author

Todd Yamashita grew up exploring pineapple fields and tide-pools on the small island of Moloka‘i in Hawai‘i. He is the fourth generation of his family to call Moloka‘i home, and plays an active roll helping his community remain true to its unique Hawaiian nature. Yamashita is the owner of the Moloka‘i Dispatch, the island’s only newspaper, and is an active volunteer in local politics and environmental efforts. He has a fine arts degree in mixed-media sculpture from the University of Hawai‘i, and enjoys photography and design almost as much as surfing and exploring the ocean.

About the Illustrator

Jamie Meckel Tablason loves illustrating picture books for children as much as she loves the islands. She grew up and lives in Southern California with her husband and two dogs. She earned her BFA and MFA in Illustration at CSU Long Beach.
