Mutual Publishing begins publishing in Hawaii with its first book, Hawaii Planner, under the imprint of Hymer Publishing. |
1978 |
Mutual Publishing releases Hawaiian Journey by Joseph G. Mullins, which goes on to become a timeless collection of historical images of Hawaii that continues to be a bestselling favorite. A new edition will be released in 2008. |
1982 |
Mutual Publishing releases its first major coffee table book, Hawaiian Yesterdays. |
1985 |
Mutual Publishing releases Maui On My Mind, which would become the standard for coffee-table books in Hawaii. |
1986 |
Mutual Publishing produces its first packaging book, Ellison Onizuka: A Remembrance, for the Onizuka Memorial Committee. |
1991 |
Mutual Publishing moves its offices to the historic community of Kaimuki. |
1993 |
Mutual Publishing begins publishing children’s books under the imprint MnM books. |
1994 |
Mutual Publishing achieves a milestone of selling over 1,000,000 books since its beginning in 1974. |
1995 |
Mutual Publishing proudly releases With Sam Choy: Cooking From the Heart, the first of many bestselling cookbooks by Hawaii’s goodwill ambassador, Chef Sam Choy. |
1998 |
Mutual Publishing releases its first line of calendars and stationery products. |
1999 |
Mutual Publishing celebrates twenty-five years in business in Hawaii and releases Hawaii Looking Back: An Illustrated History of the Islands. |
2000 |
Mutual Publishing reaches a milestone of 3,000,000 books sold with the release of thirty-one new titles, its then most releases in a single year. |
2003 |
Mutual Publishing begins the BeachHouse Publishing imprint of children’s books, created by Jane Gillespie, its production director. |
2004 |
Mutual Publishing, along with its imprint BeachHouse Publishing, releases a record number of fifty-one new books in a single year. The subject and genre range emphasize Mutual’s commitment to telling Hawaii’s story. |
2005 |
Another record setting year: Mutual Publishing releases fifty titles and BeachHouse Publishing, ten titles. Mutual begins releasing new editions of cookbooks by Muriel Miura, remembered for her nationally televised cooking shows from the 1970s, New World of Cooking with Muriel Miura and Cook Japanese. |
2006 |
Mutual Publishing begins “partner-publishing” with the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, releasing Betty Shimabukuro’s By Request, which raised over $10,000 for the Institute of Human Services. A record-setting 540,000 Mutual books are sold – the third consecutive year of over 500,000 copies sold! Mutual now has published over 500 titles. |
2007 |
Mutual Publishing expands its partner-publishing, releasing Muriel Miura and Betty Shimabukuro’s What Hawaii Likes to Eat, with proceeds going to the American Heart Association. |
2010 |
Mutual Publishing introduces Scripta, a book-production service for authors. |
2012 |
Mutual Publishing releases Ka Baibala Hemolele, the Hawaiian Bible in the original text from 1839. |
2014 |
Mutual Publishing celebrates another milestone – 40 years of publishing Hawaii books! |
2016 |
Mutual Publishing commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by releasing Serving in Paradise by Chris Cook and special editions of Battleship Missouri by Ronn Ronck and Pearl Harbor History: From Fishponds to Warships by Allan Seiden. Plans to release Remember Pearl Harbor by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser in the works for 2017. |
2017 |
Mutual Publishing publishes its sixth book in the Hawaii Cooks Series: A Japanese Kitchen by Muriel Miura. |
2018 |
Mutual Publishing and Partners In Development collaborate to introduce Ka Baibala Hemolele –Hawaiian/English Bible side by side, complete with both the Old Testament and New Testament. |
2019 |
Mutual Publishing celebrates another milestone – 45 years of publishing Hawaii books! |
