About the Author
Stephanie Lui Macdonald grew up in the small village of Na‘alehu located in the southernmost part of the Big Island of Hawaii. Lke many of her high school classmates she left Hawaii for the mainland, got her education and career start in Oregon. She spent over 25 years in marketing, most recently serving as a global business developer for an e-learning company in Portland. She took up sock knitting on long international flights and was forever hooked. The flights became more frequent and she became a very good knitter.
After her children left for college, a series of fortunate events enabled Stephanie and her husband to move back to her home island. That was seven years ago. She eventually decided to leave the marketing world and expand her knitting horizons. This expansion included working at a local knitting store, teaching knitting and crochet classes, designing custom knitwear and starting a community center knitting group. When not wielding her knitting needles and sketchbook, Stephanie serves as a senior volunteer court mediator for civil cases in Kealakekua, Hawaii.
Stephanie resides with her husband Dave and cat Blue in their home in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, perched high overlooking the Kona coastline and sheltered in a lush bamboo forest, a perfect haven for knitting.
