Defined by fiery volcanoes, snowcapped mountains, dripping rain forests, sun-drenched beaches, cascading waterfalls and lava-strewn plains, the Big Island is an island of extremes known for its diversity. Award-winning photographer, Kirk Lee Aeder, has captured the diverse beauty of the Island of Hawaii from Hilo to Kohala, from taro lo‘i in Waipio Valley to surfers on black sand beaches. The photographs are accompanied by captions written by Sophia V. Schweiter, North Kohala resident and award-winning free-lance writer.
